Magnesium Hydroxide: Molecular formula is MgOH₂; relative molecular weight is 58.32; it is a hexagonal system. Pure magnesium hydroxide is white crystal or powder. Different impurity may make it become grey or other color. The nature magnesium hydroxide (brucite) is white, light grey or light yellow and translucent crystal ore. Its density is 2.39g/cm²(298K); decomposition temperature 623K; hardness 2~3 Mohs;  refractive index 1.561~1.581; volume resistance 10⁸~10¹⁰Ω · cm. It may hardly dissolve in water,the solubility in water at 291K is 0.0009g MgOH₂/100gH₂O. Its water-solubility is alkalescence; it is not soluble in 1mol/L sodium hydroxide, but soluble in weak acid and ammonium salt, and hardly soluble in ethanol; its PH value in suspending solution is 10.3; may absorb CO₂  in the air easily; heated over 473K in alkali solution, it will become a hexagonal system; at 623K, decompose to magnesia and water; over 773K, lose all water and become magnesia.

Flam Retardant Magnesium Hydroxide is a high congesting inorganic flame retardant. It is tiny crystal substance, fibrous, with small surface area, with good dispersancy and consistency in macromolecule material. It could be the shapes of particle or sheet, but their performance will be not as well as fibers. It is innocuous,smokeless, flame resisting, guttae obstructing, good filling etc, so be broadly used in PET,polypropylene, polyethylene, PVC rubber, cable, wire, unsaturated polyester, PET, nylon, high temperature engineering plastics etc . Because of its filling and reinforcing property, it can be used in paint or dope. It may play a role of antisepsis, desulphurization, and improve ash if used in heavy oil for lubrication and fuel. Furthermore, it also can be used as filling in electronic industry, medicine, sugar making, paper making etc, and used in heat preserve material and other magnesium salt manufacture.
